Just off the coast of northern Venezuela lies Isla de Margarita, dubbed the "pearl of the Caribbean." Isla de Margarita is part of the three-island Nueva Esparta State of Venezuela, the two other islands are Coche and Cubagua. Isla de Margarita is important in Venezuelan history since it was the first free territory in Venezuela. Porlamar is the island's largest city. This is the main commercial centre and has many shops and good restaurants. Playa El Agua is the most popular beach on the island with numerous nearby bars, restaurants and nightlife. Eventhoufg sun and beach are the main reason for coming here, there are some rewarding site worth exploring such as Santa Rosa Castle, Fort of Pampatar, Cathedral Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion or the Basilica de la Virgen del Valle.Isla de Margarita is a tropical gem home to excellent beaches, sunny moderate temperature and tropical trees and flowers that make this sun-kissed island a popular destination.
